Did you know that the East End of Long Island was created by a glacier? We are the product of the last Ice Age and it is part of the reason why we are so fortunate to have an array of ecosystems where plants, animals, weather, and the natural landscape interact and work together.
Within each of our local ecosystems, which include the bay/beach, woodlands, pine barrens, dunes, farms, ponds, and streams, you will find landforms that are specific to our area. Each one of these sculpted surfaces tells a story about the land’s geologic structure and our area’s unique history.
So to honor Earth Day, and learn more about your local landscape, we invite you to go on a scavenger hunt to identify and explore the, Landforms of the Hamptons.
