The Toddler and Beginner Labs have been busy studying farms, which has included mini-units focusing on farm to table, farm animals, chickens, food and nutrition, and a study of worms.
As part of their exploration, these classes traveled to a favorite local spot, the Honest Garden at Nick and Toni’s, where one of our own staff members, Ms. Andie of Sand and Soil Farm, runs the garden.
During the field experience, students and their grown-ups worked together to complete a farm-themed scavenger hunt. They found worms, chickens, sunshine, soil, water, and seedlings!
As part of their visit, students fed the chickens,
amended the soil with red wiggler worms,
and took a tour of the farm.
Finally, the children engaged in a planting project, creating their own mini greenhouse and planting tomato seeds.
To continue the exploration back at the studio, we are hatching our own chicks. We can’t wait for them to make their appearance in the world … so exciting!
Want to get out and explore some of our favorite local farmers markets? You can find Ms. Andie and Sand and Soil Farm at most of them!
*The East Hampton Farmers Market is outdoor and within walking distance from the Playful Learning Studio!
