Explore the beauty of our local beaches and bays by investigating the unique marine life that inhabits the area as well as the myriad of shells that wash up on our shores. Here are a few of our favorite spots:
Start with a beach hunt and collect a variety of shells. We love using thisĀ small clear boxĀ which naturally helps children sort and classify their treasures.
Then offer childrenĀ crayon rocks, along with our printableĀ My Beach Collection, and invite them to trace the shells they found. It’s a wonderful way to practice fine motor skills and develop hand control in preparation for writing.
You will need:
- Crayon Rocks
- A collection of shells
- A clipboard
- Optional: Magnifying Glass, Collection Box

Don’t forget to bring along ourĀ Bay Life of the Hamptons guide as well! How many of these local marine inhabitants can you spot on your day at the bay?
